In Androids Dream there were many interesting parts that caught my eye. The most interesting scene to me was at the end of chapter 16. In this chapter, Rachel comes into town and joins Rick at a near by hotel. Rachel and Rick end up sleeping together at the end of the chapter. Rick wanted Rachel to come down and help him hunt the other androids but instead they stayed in together. I found this part to be most interesting due to the fact that Rachel is an android. Although she is considered to be a legal andy and she helps Rick multiple times, she still isn't human. I also found in interesting that Rick slept with Rachel even though he has a wife back at home. Therefore, this chapter changes the way i feel about Rick because he has committed adultery with a android.
What i find confusing at the end of chapter 16 is why Rick decided to sleep with Rachel. He was completely focused on his job that day after killing 3 andys in one day and he had the opportunity to capture the rest of them. Instead he stayed in the hotel with Rachel and now he possibly could lose the rest of the bounties and his money. He must not care too much about the sheep he wanted to buy for him and his wife.
I think that Rick Deckard ending up sleeping with Rachel Rosen because he was tired and did not want to search for the last three andys. Also, Phil Resch talked to Rick about sleeping with andys before killing them. This may have really interested Rick and made him want to know what it would be like. Rachel kept telling him before they had sex, that if he didn't think about it too much it would be enjoyable and real. This probably made him even more interested. Another factor that made him sleep with Rachel could be Iran, Rick's wife. Maybe she can't make him happy, so he would try out an anroid. Although I do not not the true answer as to why Rick chose to sleep with this anroid, I tried to answer your question to the best of my abilities. Hopefully we will find out why he slept with Rachel in the future chapters.
ReplyDeleteI think that he slept with Rachel because he was curious about whether it would change his feelings towards androids. It was Phil's advice to sleep with androids and then kill them. I think Rick was interested in seeing if this "reverse method" really did make more sense. Also, I believe it was really in the moment. I don't think Rick was really thinking about what he was doing, and he obviously wasn't worried about his wife. I think he was just really interested in the whole idea of sleeping with an android. It seems as if he wasn't satisfied with his wife and their current situation was not great so he just did it.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Rick decides to sleep with Rachel Rosen because he is following Phil Resch's advice. On pages 125 and 126 Phil and Rick have a conversation about Rick's feeling of empathy toward androids. Phil claims that the Rick's empathy is a feeling of sex (which he says is the same as love) towards a female android. Phil says that in order to be able to kill a female android, Rick must "Go to bed with her first--" "-- and then kill her"(126). Therefore, Rick is under the impression that by sleeping with Rachel Rosen, he will be able to kill the female androids much easier.
